    66 427/425 starter shims

I installed a new starter with 0 shims and the starter gear flew apart into my bell housing. I took it all apart got out the pieces new ring on the fly wheel.

Installed new starter with 3 flat shims that extends to both bolts (.022 each) Now every 3rd time it grinds/shrieks and just hits the flywheel and does not engage.

When it does engage it sounds fine.

How many shims does it get? Everyone tells me to add. How do you adjust?

    Thanks

pretty sure you shim the gears @ .090

measured at the valley of the ring gear and peak of the starter tooth---hunt around for something you can bend easily to make the "tool" maybe a coat hanger---good luck, phil
