Hi I looked in the archives but didn't find anything. Is there any certain thing that ID's an original 66 Corvette small block differential side yokes, like numbers cast into them or shape design, spline count or all 63 thru 67 the same? Thanks in advance for any help, sincerely Brian Kotula

Re: C2 66 differential yoke ID
Brian-----
There is usually a forging number found on them. However, it's not visible with the axles mounted on the car. It's within the saddle of the yoke, in a circular pattern around the center. The only number I've ever seen on 63-75 U-BOLT TYPE axles is "3832037", although other numbers may have been used. In any event, all 1963-75 U-BOLT TYPE axles were GM PART #3832031 and appear identical.
For 1976-79 the axle part number for the U-BOLT TYPE axle changed to GM #371699. These soon became SERVICE for 1963-75. Later yet, GM #14016436 became the SERVICE axle for all 1963-79. Both the GM #371699 and 14016436 carry the forging number "371700". At least, that's the only number I've ever seen. Except for the number (which, as I mentioned, is not visible installed on the car), these axles are, essentially, indiscernable from the earlier axles.
Keep in mind that the above applies only to U-BOLT TYPE axles. The HD, CAP-TYPE axles used from 1965 to 1974 on all big blocks and 1970-77 on some small blocks were of GM forging number "3872923" or "3872923X" (at least, all that I've seen were) and of GM PART #3872922. Once again, the forging numbers are not visible with the axles installed on the car.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Side yokes have same spline count and ....
Thanks Wayne for the spline count, I knew about the pinion from a previous post and was wondering if GM did something goofy also with the side yokes. I figured if the 64 was the same as the 65 they all were the same, thanks again. Sincerely Brian- Top
