    Jack stands under a C3

What are the safest positions for placing 4 jack stands under a 69 convertible? Are they the jacking points as described in the owner's manual, or are there better locations, such as, front frame ram's horns, and rear crossmember? Just like to feel safe while I'm wrenchin' underneath and crankin' on some nut at about 90lb. torque.

    Thanks much folks.

    Rich-----

Jackstand locations are shown in the 1969 Chevrolet Service Manual. There are the 4 points at the corners of the "box section" of the frame and the 2 front frame horn locations. I would not get under a car that was supported by just the 4 corners of the box section. The car can and WILL easily "tilt". To get under the car supported by jackstands, I use SIX at all six factory-specified points. However, I RARELY get under a car that's supported by jackstands, regardless of how many

If I'm doing work that doesn't involve the need to remove the wheels and I'm going to be under the car, I support it by using ramps under all four wheels and forget the jackstands altogether. Ramps under all four wheels gives me 100% confidence that the car won't come down on me.

If I'm doing work that involves the need to remove the wheels, I use the jackstands. However, I usually don't get under the car.

Amen, Brother Joe. Getting dead cause your car fell on you is almost as bad as incinerating yourself cleaning the basement floor with gasoline.
