    brake pedal goes to floor

Just took my 67 out of two year storage. When checking brakes i found the pedal goes almost to the floor. Checked for leaks, found none, master cylinder is full. Drove down the drive way and the car will stop, but the pedal goes to the floor. This is a power brake car. Any ideas on what to check, and look for? Thanks

    Re: Yup

Bleed the calipers at all four corners until clear fluid is noticed. This should be done regardless to remove trapped moisture in the lines.

If the master cylinder has bleeders, bleed it as well.

Make sure that the master cylinder doesn't suck air while you do this.

Start at the passengers rear, then the driver's rear, then the passenger's front and finally the drivers front.

After you bleed each caliper, check the pistons for leakage. If there is no sign of leakage, move on to the next.

As I'm a one man crew, I use the gravity bleed process. If you have a helper, to work the pedal for you, then it is the quicker process by far.

If your not familiar with the bleeding process, let me know.

If you still have low pedal issues after the bleeding process, then I would closely check all the rubber flex lines for collapsing.

Also check the vacuum line going to the hydrovac for splitting.

    Chuck

Your symptoms are typical of an internal master cylinder failure.

Has this car had regular fluid flushes over the years? Was it flushed prior to putting it into storage?

        Hi Randy

I agree with Duke.It seems that your seals are failing in your master cylinder and the fluid is bypassing them. Rebuild the master cylinder and then bleed the brakes.

        Good luck...John

Thanks Chuck, and Duke. I thought i remember reading some place that if the rotors were bad the brake pedal would act this way. I'll try bleeding the system first. If that dont work i'll get a new master cylinder. Mine is not original, but im told LIC sell the new repo ones that look correct and will pass judging. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again, Randy

Car has not had regular fluid flushes, and was not flushed prior to storage.
