1969 Rear window storage tray (2) questions

I have two questions regarding the storage trays found in 1969-72 Corvettes.

    1) Can someone post a picture showing how the rear window is supposed to lock into the tray?

    2) Mine squeaks like crazy; has anyone found a way to quiet these things down?

    Thanks,

    Dave

I judged one this week that had very neat foam pieces glued in. I have seen others simply use pieces of towels.

My early 1970 has (working from memory) a clip which retains the top of the aluminum window frame -- (toward the rear of the car), and two levers which rotate to retain the pins that are on the bottom of the window frame -- those pins face the front of the car as the window is installed in the tray. There is no way to get a picture of that tray when it is in the car. Just not enough room and light to get a photo.

Someone asked me about the storage tray in Marlborough. Was that you, or is it becoming a popular subject?

Nope that wasn't me that asked about the tray. I tried hooking the top of the window under that channel and then latching the catches on top of those pins but, the channel wasn't tall enough for me to slip the window under it.

By the time that person asked, Sal had loaded his 1970 for the trip home. The 1972 had a plastic tray. We couldn't open it to look inside -- too much stuff in the storage area.
I do recall there being several methods of securing the window to the tray, but it has been too long for me to remember the details.

The clips disappeared with the 1971-72 design, which also has no flocking. This is all detailed in the 4th edition 1970-72 Judging Guide.

My 69 has a L bracket in the rear. Sorry, this picture doesn't show it. It requires the bottom of the window to be lifted slightly when installing. It is very snug on the top window frame when the two levers close on the lower window pins. I have three foam blocks glued to the tray which keeps the entire tray from squeeking.

                Mike,

That is just what I needed to know, thank you very much for clearing that up for me. I was afraid to force the window under that channel but, now that I know the rear needs to be tilted up and it's supposed to be a snug fit, I won't be so hesitant.

I like the idea of the foam blocks too, I think I'm going to give that a try as well.

                Thanks again,

                Dave
