To all who gave me advice on my 66 SB that was stumbling at highway speed, THANK YOU. The final culprit was indeed the new points that I installed and managed to contaminate with the excess grease in the distributor.
Here are the lessons learned: 1. LIGHTLY grease the point lobes on the dist. and then, after you have spun the dist. by hand, wipe off the excess. Greasy points will fire anytime and anywhere they like. 2. When you rebuild a carb, trying to eliminate fuel as the culprit, pre-set the floats according the directions in the Holley rebuild kit. I eyeballed mine and after I got 5 miles from the house and the engine wouldn't idle at a light without dying. I rechecked the floats and the rear one was so high that fuel was spilling out into the rear two barrels and floading the carb at idle. 3. When you get ready to install the spark plugs that others have recommended as very suitable for your car, CALL around to find them first. I still have not found the AC 44's or 45's. All that is available or those with the R prefix, although they will work. Gary 21316
