    C3 427/400 Distributor

I'm replacing the replacement point type distributor with the correct TI unit for the car. Does it make a difference where the window on the cap faces once the TI unit is installed?

The magnetic pulse distributors were designed such that indexing for a given timing placed the window at about the same clocking as on the single point system.

The actual final position varies with initial timing spec, but as a general rule the window should end up near normal to engine centerline. If it's signficantly off from this the gear is installed 180 degrees out, or the distributor is installed ahead or behind of design indexing.

The above will often manifest as not being able to achieve recommended initial timing before the VAC interferes with some other component, and the window is significantly off normal to engine centerline.
