    1960 Oil Pressure Line

What fittings are required at the gauge to connect the oil pressure line and are they included in the kits available from CC or Paragon. Is the Paragon kit with the 'copper plated steel' correct?

David, I bought one of those kits for my 63. It's correct but difficult to install as the line is rigid. FIttings are included. Less than 10 buks I believe. I have been watching the judges test the oil lines with their magnet. It's the latest nitch with them although some of the old timers have been checking them for years. I still like the old copper lines better though but.... John

The kits they sell do have the fittings, but the line is a little smaller in diameter and will not pass if you plan of having it judged. I ended up having to find an original line for my 56.

So, what about the stainless lines, they would not magnetic and perhaps could be painted to look copperish.

Sorry Dave, it's still too small.

The repro lines are larger diameter than the the originals, and the fittings are a different size than the originals as well. The original fittings were 5/16" across the wrench flats, and the repros are 3/8". I have reworked the 3/8 fittings to 5/16 flats, but have been unsucessful in finding the correct line size. Someone told me that Paul Mazut is now selling the correct lines size, but I have not seen one.

The copper plated line is always a repro, and is truly incorrect, no matter what the JG says! All original C1 lines were TBW steel lines, and were never copper plated. If you look at lines on any Bowtie car, you will not find a copper plated line. Sometimes, rust on the line makes it appear as if it was plated, but the proof is obvious when you look under the dash where the line has been protected from the weather. I have looked at many, many Bowtie C1 cars, and have yet to see anything other than a TBW steel line, and have owned C1 cars that had their original lines in place, and they were TBW steel as well.

              Re: 1960 Oil Pressure Line

              Thanks John,

I'm going to search thru my old coffee cans looking for the correct fitting. The fitting that came with the CC oil line kit will fit the fi oil line, part number 644K, but there is no fitting for the gauge end. The fittings you see on page 7 of the Paragon V.32 2007 catalog look to be the same size, but if they are 3/8 inch like I have, the fitting slips into the square head fitting that looks to be a part of the gauge. When I mic the threaded opening in the gauge, it looks to be 5/16 like you indicated. Part number 34 on that same page fits the engine end but not the gauge end. Should there be an additional fitting at the gauge end between the 3/8 head size fitting and the gauge?

Looking at part number 642K, of the same Paragon catalog, sort of indicates that the fitting should fit satisfactorily into the gauge. Just another little puzzle that I should know the answer to but can't put it together.

Thanks for your help, I will call Paragon and Central Monday to get their rendition.

              Dave D.

Aha! Wrong fitting! Found a proper fitting and you are correct, the 3/8 inch works! Man is my back sore from crawling in and out, now back to the coffee cans. Thanks to all of you, hope to see some of you at an ncrs function.
