    fuel injetion......

    I have a 63 Corvette stingray.....

and my question is....I have a factory hole on the left radiator support frame. it is probably for the air inlet to the injetion. right ?

Does it mean that I have a car which had fuel injetion installed from the factory or did they all came with such a hole ?

Please tell me what a have......

    Anders,

Sometime after 1963, GM began providing the Fuelie core support regardless of what engine was in the midyear needing it. This apparently cut down on the number of replacement parts they had to stock. In your case, it means either that:

    a) your car originally was a fuelie, or

    b) it wasn't, and it had the support replaced.

Others on the board should be albe to tell you more about clues to determining whether or not your car originally had fuel injection.

    Good Luck!

Two types of radiator supports for that year..one with a hole...one without. Looks like you may have a fuelie...also on the driver side inside the engine compartment...look at the fender well...look and see if you have three holes in a triangle fashion that were used to attach the air cleaner. Then you have the Tach that was a 6500 RPM one....good luck.

Original F.I. mid-years had this support for the air cleaner s-tube.Carb. cars did not have this style of support. But,most GM replacement supports all did, have this hole.It may take further investagation to determine what you original H.P. was. This support was prone to rust out and many supports were replaced with GM replacments.

As far as I know, only cars originally equipped with fuel injection had the "oval"-shaped hole in the radiator support. Of course, it's always possible that this radiator support was retrofitted to the car as a replacement for the original support since this part often suffers from corrosion damage in service. However, most likely, the support is original to the car which would indicate that the car was originally FI-equipped.

The 63 core support, FI or non FI is unique. It has "bosses" which stick out about 1 1/2 inches in the lower front areas where the horns mount. 64 and up and all replacement supports do not have these bosses--they are flat in those areas. So, any 63 only support is a rare bird. As others have said, all replacements had the FI hole. Chuck
