C-3 1070 Brake Calipers

Haven't tackeled the breaks yet but was wobdering if the calipers I have are original or not, and if it's worth it to have them rebuilt with SS or just exchange. The numbers of one of the fronts and one of the backs are as follows:
Front: 5473788 (/)8250()
Rear: 5465905 () 40 (/)
Bothe also have the Deloc Moraine cast on them.
Is the front August 25, 70 and the back Aptil, 70???

Hi Jim,

I scounged a set off of a 75 setting in the bushes in back of a gent's house rotting away and used them as cores for a new set. My originals are bagged and setting on the shelf. I was leery to let the originals out of my sight after read some of the horror storys of parts going into black holes or taking forever to get back from vendors.

All it cost me was $5.00 a caliper and three wasp strikes

Thanks Chuck, I know it should be simpler but my luck is Murphy riding shotgun lately. I know it needs rears, and the master cyl has what looks like jellyfish living in the bottoms, so I know I should just bite the bullet and do it all right to the pedal, but I need to get the 61 running better first so I have SOMETHING to drive to the nationals!

Neither of the caliper half casting numbers you mentioned is original for a 1970. All of the 1970 casting numbers should begin with "545".

The "546" caliper half is a 1st design, 1965-E67 caliper half. It's likely been previously converted to 2nd design bore configuration. The "547" caliper half is a ~1973 to 1982 casting. These are, by far, the most common.

Thanks Joe. That helps make the decision to get them ordered now, a whole lot easier. Just looking under there and seeing old ball joints and such... I have to remember to take a pill to ward off the "while I'm at it" syndrome!!!

Get your affairs in order Jimmer .......there is no known cure for the "W.I.A.I." syndrome.

It will slowly get to the point where your chattering like a monkey on speed every time you exploit your charge, checking, or kids college accounts for that "I need just one more NOS piece" dementia.

You know your on the spiral down when you think $150.00 for amber parking light bulbs on ebay is a good deal.
