I thought the BB and SB batteries were the same; but I have to admit, it didn't make sense for them to be the same. I'm continually finding little facts I don't know about Corvettes...even the 70 models which I've been studying since I started.
My first inclination was that all the midyears had tar tops, but then, something told me I better check the 67. I wouldn't say my info on the tar tops is necessarily absolutely correct, but an old New Castle battery catalog shows the DC-12 ending in 66 and the R59 starting in 67. That same catalog also shows the R59 running through 72, and we know that's wrong; it's an early catalog...the obvious reason is they didn't have any repro R79s or R89s to sell.
I've never thought about it much, but I don't remember the 67 battery being a side terminal. Funny thing about midyears...the batteries are out of sight and out of mind, so they don't get much discussion except from midyear judges and midyear owners.
