    BW T-10 Transmission

I believe I have a T-10 for all years, it must have been created from other transmissions. The following is information that is on the main case. T 10 D-1, E in a circle, S in a circle and 29 in a circle. The inspection cover has no marks. The tail has a date code of 6-20-60, T-10-7B, WG Div. I believe that the tail shaft is for a cast iron 60 T-10, is the main case for a 63 and what would be the date it was cast? The main case has a SN on the side.

I removed this from a January 1961 car.

    Re: BW T-10 Transmission

Ray, I certainly am no expert in this area but see that nobody has responded. Doesn't the rear upper right flange on the main case have a stamping which starts with a "W". If so, the next is an alpha character for month, then the day. The last character is the shift (1, 2 or 3) and the single numeric preceding is the year. For example, WA1132 would be Warner-Jan-11th day-year 63-2d shift. I am having similiar ID issues on a T-10 I have inbound. Doesn't seem to be very many helpful resources regarding the early T-10 identifying marks to me. Seems it would be rather simple to publish a concise guide on the T-10? If I can find my info (too old to remember where I put it), I will send you the useage periods/application in relation to castings. Hopefully, an actual expert will help you.

The main case is 63 only, cast May 29. Sidecovers had dates on the inside until Feb. 61, when they started casting them on the outside. The tail housing was used with cast iron main cases in Corvettes and passenger cars, and Corvettes with aluminum main cases in 1961. For more information, see my Restorer article in vol. 13, #1.
