    '62 "Keyhole" cutout

Does anybody have a picture of the "keyhole" cutout for power top switch on a '62 not equipped with a power top, or even a drawing. Thanks Terry Robertson

    Terry--
That "keyhole" cutout should already be on the underside of the dash, already in the fiberglass. (Done already at the factory.) Looking down from above with the radio speaker removed will allow you to see it clearly.

Thanks Mike It does have the hole in the fibreglass but it's been interpeted to be a hole in the dash pad according to the Judging Guide. So should the dash pad be cut to match hole in fibreglass? Thanks Terry

Yup... Keep in mind, both the...

...power top switch and the courtesy light cut-outs were die stamped in the dash pad before it was installed on the car. The courtesy light cut out is rather simple to do because the bezel hides imperfection. The power top switch requires surgical skills. Also keep in mind that given the pre install die cut, when installed at the factory, the holes did not always achieve a perfect alignment with the fiberglass cut outs... Good Luck, DC

if you are in no hurry, i can send you a scapel with a # 15 blade you can use to affect the "surgical cut" dipstick referred to. they are real handy at cutting dash pads, door panels, carpets etc. let me know. mike

              Hey Mikie,

Wouldn't a #11 blade with its pointy tip work better for such an item? I know it's what I grab for when I have to do similar work.

And, it's also what comes with an X-acto knife, but like you I have a variety of "tools" at my disposal.

FYI, those plastic handled round-bladed disposable punch biopsy "knives" have a myriad of uses too!

Thanks Guys I was thinking X-Acto knife but am I dreaming? Do I really need a scapel? It was only one point in San Antonio but I'm on a mission to make my '62 as correct as possible. Thanks Terry

I used an X-Acto knife when I did my `62 a few years ago. And I do not have that steady of a hand. Just took my time.

Mission accomplished!!! Every tool box ought to have a scalpel. Thanks Terry
