    BB Rods Torque Spec

I'm looking for the torque specification of the LS-6 Connection rod GM 12496661. It has 7/16 bolts.

    thanks

    70 Ft. pounds........

no more, no less. Using new bolts or ABUB (Already been used bolts)? Suggest you get new ones.

be sure to oil the threads and rod surface where the nut makes contact with 30 wt motor oil.

i would be careful using moly kote as it changes the coefficient of friction and you will get a higher torque on the bolt for the same reading than you do with oil. i tried molykote on main studs one time and although i had not reached the rated torque on the stud it broke off in the block and i had to make a drill jig/fixture to drill it out. always check what lube they recommend for a stated torque value.

I seriously doubt moly lube the cause.......

of the broken stud, but rather a weakened or fateaged stud. ARP includes a package of Moly lube with every rod bolt, head, & main stud package.

Re: I seriously doubt moly lube the cause.......

their torque specs are set for the use of molykote. most torque specs in chevy books are for oil. crower rod bolts spec oil for lube but carrillo supplies a moly based lube but for the same size rod bolt the torque spec is different. there is more bolt stretch on the same bolt using the same torque when using moly kote vs motor oil. i have tried this on rod bolts using my rod bolt stretch checker.
