    '57 Oil filler Cap problem

I am having a problem removing my oil filler cap. I had the oil changed last November before I put it away, it was difficult removing it then, but we applied some silicone to the filler tube thinking it would help. Now it seems "stuck" and it cannot be removed. I've tried by hand and by tapping lightly from beneath with a hammer (covering it with a shop rag). It won't budge. I'm afraid of damaging the filler tube (or something else). Is there a tool out there that I can use to help remove it? Any suggestions? I've never come across this problem before. Thanks for any assistance you might provide.

Hit it harder it'll move. I assume you mean silicone spray and not silicone adhesive.

Bob, You probably have repro oil filler tube. Some of those appear to be fatter. When you mix two repro parts together like the cap and the tube I have noticed that you really have to push hard to put the repro cap on. You didn't say if your stuff was original or not. Try a dead blow hammer. John
