Need C2 Wiring / Repair suggestions

I've recently restored the Intake, Carb, Distributor and Radiator on my 67 L36. In doing so, I've added many new parts and in getting the timing re-set I shorted a coil wire in the wire harness back to the starter. (one of the Pink Wires.)

Any suggestions on repairing this without replacing the entire harness? (The insulation melted most of the way back).

    Thanks,

    Steve

The biggest problem is checking to see if other wires in the bundle were melted when the pink wire cooked. If so, they must be repaired. If not, the car will not miss the pink wire as it really only has to function as an assist in starting during very cold weather conditions.

That pink wire only goes between the starter solenoid and coil.

I would pull the harness and carefully unwrap the burned wire to see if anything else was damaged. Then (probably hard part) I'd try to find a piece of pink wire of the same gauge. Now all that is required is to install the wire and wrap the harness back up using non-sticky vinyl tape.

From first look, I don't see any other wires that were damaged, and the car runs fine now other than a backfire issue at 2500-3000 RPMs (unrelated to the wire issue I believe).

So the wire issue is, how do I repair this the best possible way without replacing the entire harness? Can I splice a wire in its place and rewrap the bundle?

        Thanks Again,

        Steve

If you have your old harness you could use the pink wire from it. You need to test the old one with an ohm meter to make sure it is OK. I would definitly would unwrap the harnesss to see if any of the other wires were damage.

I just repaired my pink wiring from the coil, starter to the resister on the firewall on a 63, got the pink wire from a local NAPA store. I beieve it was 14 AWG (american wire gage). If you can't find it in your town, send me an email and I will send you enough to do your repair. I have some left over, don't think, I will need it again...

Thanks for the info, I'll check with NAPA.

              Cheers,

I had the same thing happen to my 63. I replaced the pink wire and the car was running fine. I never felt comfortable with the repair I did. I was always concerned that another wire in the bundle may have been damaged. I ended up replacing the entire harness on that side of the engine compartment. I'd rather be safe then sorry.
