I am in the process of reassembling my 61. I have totally re-wired the car. All electrical components function properly, however the car will not turn over. this is a powerglide car. I am beginning to suspect either the neutral safety switch or the relay. The car was fine when disassembled for restoration and both are original components. I have double checked the schematic and all connections and found no errors. Is it safe to by-pass the relay and run a jumper straight to the starter to see if this is the culprit. Gary

Re: 1961 electrical problem
Thanks Jack, I know it sounds dumb but I like to double check when it comes to electrical. Also I couldn't find much info in either the passenger manual or the ST. However, I have made the jump and it is in fact the relay. Is there a service replacement or can my original be restored. Thanks, Gary- Top

Re: 1961 electrical problem
This is an area I don't have experience with (rebuilding a PG neutral safety switch). Most things electrical from that era CAN be opened and repaired, but I know I don't know...
The news that's worse is go try and find a correct replacement switch for either a '61 or a '62. If a given catalog does list one, the listing comes with the infamous 'CALL' notation where price usually appears!- Top

Re: 1961 electrical problem
Gary, Corvette Central sells a replacement which worked just fine on my '61 but if you have the original #904 relay, John Pirkel can restore it for you. The problem is usually cleaning the contacts and doing some bending. Do you need his # ?- Top
