    65 Maroon seat belt pockets/boots

After finally finding a supplier of reproduction 65 maroon seat belt pockets last week, I just got a call they have been discontinued. Paragon, Corvette central,Zip, Ecklers, Mid midamerica,Snake Oyl, and Al knochs. I have not called LICS yet. Since it is a repo. they must all get them from the same manufacturer. Can these be died maroon? If so How? Buy a black set and die it? Never tried this. NOS? I think I'll call Charlie. Anyone else? Thanks DG

The saddle set that I purchased from Paragon a little over a year ago was actually a blue set that had been painted/dyed saddle. It's tough not to damage the paint when inserting the belt anchor plate through the boot. Needless to say I was not pleased to find the blue base color under the saddle. If it had been painted over black, it would not be as noticeable.

I just spoke to someone on this subject and he stated my car should not have the boots. My 65 was built January 1965. Thanks DG

        Two issues here...

There were two discrete AIM changes on belts in '65 (see Noland Adams for a nice discussion) with one dealing with the addition of the retractors and the other the addition of the belt pockets. The issue is 'cloudy' as to what cars got one, the other or both in the Dec-Jan time frame.

PLUS, maroon interior is another rather 'rare bird' option. It took a while for the factory to get ALL of the molded plastic pieces available in maroon and the often substituted red or black until all of the items were available and in inventory stock in maroon.

One of our chapter members has a maroon/maroon 365 HP convertible that was built in Dec. It had no belt pockets, DID have maroon vinyl seats, but the seat backs were RED!

At this time I will leave the retractors on with no boots. Cannot get them anyway. Thanks DG
