    69 Fuel Tank

I have a late, November 69, 427, 390HP, Auto and I'm getting ready to replace the fuel tank which is rusted on the inside and leaking on the outside.

I'm getting ready to order all the parts. Dr Rebuild catalog shows a genuine GM gas tank at 20 gallons. Paragon shows original style with A O Anderson logo at 24 gallons.

    1. So, which is the correct size and gets the most points?
    2. Since the inside is rusted, I'm going to buy a new sending unit. Is that appropriate?
    3. Both sites offer strap kits for mounting; is this something that also needs to be replaced?

    Any other suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Don

Believe that the tanks are the same, just a typo. Both probably came from the same supplier.

        Don-----

        1) No 24 gallon fuel tank was EVER used for 1969 Corvettes. All 1969 tanks were 20 gallons, nominal, capacity.

        2) If I were replacing the tank, I'd also replace the fuel gauge sending unit. Might as well "do it right" and be done with it.

        3) If your straps are in good condition, they can be re-used with no problems, at all. Usually, even if they suffer from any corrosion, it will be very light corrosion that can be cleaned up. If they suffer from serious corrosion, I'd replace them.

          Don,

I think that most of the major suppliers get their tanks from Quanta, including the O-L-A logo.

They're also a great source for engine belts & other restoration items & services.

Sometimes it's easier to deal with the manufacturer than the middleman.

          Good luck,

          Anthony

Be sure to bend the seam flanges down on the replacement tank like on the original tank where the straps pass by the flange, or you'll have a real battle getting the straps secured; the replacement tank may not have that feature.

              BE CAREFUL!!!

Be careful, starting when you remove the tank from the box.
The flange edges are sharp like razor blades.
Wear good leather gloves and still handle carefully.
As John says, bend the flange down where the straps cross.
