I have a 1962 # 1438 which I figured out to be built on October 10th by our NCRS records. GM Canada's information states:- Order # 192624, Production Date Oct.26th,1961, Shipping Date Oct. 26th, 1961, 1 of 132 for sale in Canada. I hope this sheds some light on build dates.

Based on your serial number 1438, in the Corvette Birthday Book it comes out to a build date of Oct. 16th. With your date of Oct. 26th and the fact that the ending serial number of 2065 for Oct. 1961, this would work out to a daily production of 157 car per day. This is higher than any other productions number during this timeframe. I believe that since the Canadan record show a production date and shipping date of Oct. 26th, that this may represent the actual shipping date to Canada. This might be the result of the cars awaitting a full shipment to Canada and thus resulting in the car sitting on a storage lot until there were enought cars for a full truck shipment to Canada. At least my calculations in the Birthday Book come a little closer to the Canadan documentation.
