    Is there a correct repro. '67 redline available ?

    Hello;
    I was told at the Rochester Regional the Coker Firestone SS red lines are the incorrect logo/script.(6 points)
    Your thoughts on a correct redline?
    Thanks

          Ray,

          Goodyear Power Cushion is as close as you'll get. It should be dead nuts on except for the DOT markings.
          Goodyear red and/or gold sidewall tires are actually 1/2" wider (approx.) in tread width than similarly BRANDED whitewalls. Joe Kelsey has been selling them for years and, AFAIK, they have been acknowledged by most black hats as being the best available.
          Firestone branded their red/goldlines as "Super Sports", NOT Deluxe Champions like the whites. Firestone supposedly destroyed the original tooling for the (also, 1/2" wider tread)original issue SS tires. Firestone Super Sports have only started being reproduced again about 2 years ago. Up until then, Coker was selling Firestone Deluxe Champion red/goldlines, which never were installed on Corvettes.
          Whitewalls are another matter altogether, and the choices are much wider, as Goodyear, Goodrich, Firestone, Uniroyal all make fairly true, and relatively equally faithful reproductions. The 1965-1967 7.75-15 red/goldlines were especially made for Corvettes only, and were constructed from a different carcass, with 1/2" wider tread. 1968 was the first year that bias belted ("wide oval") F70-15's were used.

          Joe

                I am contemplating flight judging for the first time adn have a question. How much of a point deduction will result from a "correct" repop bias ply with a DOT marking? Is it a full deduction, as though you had a radial tire on the car? Thanks

                  Greg,

                  NCRS Judging Reference Manual, page 21,: Tires

                  "Deduct 10% - Reproduction OEM brand and size tires which differ from original only because of Federally required DOT markings."

                  Joe

                  BTW: The above referenced book is available on this website, and should be a valuable resource for you, along with your TIM&JG, Shop Manual(s), AIM, etc.
