    69 Sock Absorber Painting

The Judging Guide has specific detail of the front shock absorber and how it was painted but does not address the rear. Can someone supply me with that information, especially are the bushings for the rear painted?

    Thanks

Since the shocks are AC Delco replacements GM#88945172 ACD# 530-4 #stamped in casing 737661. Is there any reason I should fill in the stamping that states "Made in Mexico" for judging purposes?

yeah I would, just take some spot putty and then paint over that and you should have the made in part out of sight.

I bought the rubber grommets to replace the polys. Is there an easy way of removing and installing the rubber?

In my opinion...Do what you want to make them "look" more original, but I doubt most chassis judges will get close enough to read any stampings on the shock, and this includes the search for dates.

Unless he is specifically looking for the "Made in Mexico" stamping and knows where to look on the body of the shock, he'll be looking for overall configuration, especially color, gloss level, and MAYBE the weld configuration. Any more than that, and the judge has a focused interest on shocks in particular, IMO.

Unless you paint them thinly without primer like they were painted originally, it's likely you'll fill the shallow stampings anyway.
