    C1 Visor Header Hole Location

I am restoring the windshield on my 62 (SS polished, tabs fixed, new seal, etc) and just realized that the header is not an original one configured for visors. There are visor mounting holes drilled in the header but they are in the wrong locations (too close) and there are no retaining nuts! Can any provide the dimensions on where the visor holes in the header are supposed to be located?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike--
There is a regular steel (not stainless) upon which the stainless header fits. The actual retention of the visor screws is done into that, as I recall, because the header is pretty light stainless. Putting visors just into that is a recipe for enlarging whatever holes you put in it.
If you have the correct piece, that will indicate where your holes go. I suspect that the whole thing was changed and you don;t have the correct underneath piece. I'd find both correct and then resell what you have rather than to try to retrofit into your incorrect pieces.

      Mike,

In searching the archives I can upon some discussions where others were modifying the SS header, steel upper frame and side frames to allow adding visors (John McGraw). I think the out board attachment is pretty straight forward as you just drill a hole in the SS header and drill and tap a hole in the side frame. The inner holes require adding some sort of mounting structure. Still trying to figure out the best way.

I would love to but the correct parts but they seem pretty difficult to find and expensive.

      Thanks,
      Mike

        Mike,
As I recall the proper sunvisor mounting device is a nutplate spot welded inside the upper stainless located in the center. This allows mounting of both inner visor brackets. The outer mounts are simply holes properly located and drilled into the upper windshield post. I believe they are located with an existing hole in the upper stainless. Rich # 2276
