53-57 dash rail cover

Ok, checked archives first, could not find a thread on how to upholster a dash rail on a '55. Just got my Al Knoch interior and started with that piece. Yikes! Anybody done this? Mini clamps and a heat gun??? What else? Techique? Where to start: middle or end?

Mike,

Never done one myself but I've read that starting at the center is best. My guess is that it's similar to putting down plastic laminate. Spray-on the adhesive, let dry, and start at the middle, working to each side silmutaneously, but not let the finish material touch the fiberglass rail until it's exactly perfect. Then stick 'er down while getting the air bubbles out.

Maybe Mikie or Russ will chime in and straighten us both out.

its a job i dread. wipe old adhesive off the fiberglass rail with lacquer thinner. i use 3M super trim adhesive in the rattle cans. i've rarely done it and got good fit on first attempt. its a PITA job. good luck, mike
