    C3 - 1970 Door Panels

Replacing the badly discolored and bubbeling door panels and had the following questions:
    1) tha AIM page K9 shows two clips (part 5 #3932809) that my old doors don't have - do these clip onto the panel then screw to the face of the door or to the edge (90 deg to the face)? My copy is hard to read.
    2) the trim around the window crank is like a plastic bezel, should this be same color as panel finish (brite blue in my case)?

Things to note so far - the old panel is pressed cardboard and looks like it has two layers of vinyl on it - new is plastic; can't find any part number or date on the back of the panel and no crayon on the door skin (yet) but still looking; basic panels, onlu simple trim and from an early car (upper 400's)

    Thanks!!!
    Jim

    Jim,

I've had several '70 'vettes. The plastic bezel around the window crank is the interior color of your car. Your replacement panel from your description sounds like a reproduction piece. I don't have my '70 AIM manual anymore to assist you with your other inquiry, sorry.

I think the answer to your question number 1 is '90 degree to the face'. Your new door panels should have a cut out where the bracket should fit, and the door itself should have the corresponding screw holes.

Thanks Warren and Mike! I need to get the brackets, I am sure I can get them from CC or someone. Yes the panesl are repo from CA and the 90 deg makes sense.
        Thanks again! Jim

          Jim,
From your description it sounds like you have a panel with a 'skin' on it. I've read about them but haven't ever seen a panel with what I thought was a 'skin'. I always thought they were so good I couldn't tell or were so much trouble they were never actually successfully installed. The bubbles are just one of the pitfalls I can think of. Is it a 'skin'?
          Regards,
          Alan

Years ago I saw many people "try" to install skins. Never saw a decent looking installation. Too many variables

I think it has been skinned, I will peel it away once I successfully get the repop one installed and let you know. I was hoping to find the job number on the door and some number on the back of the panel but no luck with either yet...
