c2 66 Conv Side Window Upper Roller Track

I've taken apart my drivers side window regulator assy. and have taken pictures of the location of the upper roller track prior to disassembly. The upper track has a slight curvature to it and even though I've documented the way it was, who's to say it was in correctly. So, my question is, does anyone know which way the curvature of the track should be, up or down????

I don't recall the upper roller track being curved, but straight. You're referring to the short track that's running parallel to the bottom of the window glass? Here's what mine look like:

It's the long track at the top that window bolts into. I took a look at it from both perspectives and it doesn't appear to matter. Either way it all lines up and works well. I was just curious as to the reasoning behind the slight curve. Just one of many questions that's come to mind during this project. Thanks for your response...... Frank

I noticed this curve as well, and like you I would like to know which orientation is correct. I hope someone can answer this question.

Are you sure that there wouldn't be binding of the linkage if the curvature was not correct?

I dont't think it would bind in either orientation. The curvature is subtle but appears to be original, not the result of bending.

I've assembled the upper track both ways and I can't see any difference in the operation. There's plenty of gap (either orientation) with the channel that holds the glass, so it's not a support issue. Besides all of the support is on the studs that attach the glass to the top track. I guess this is just one of the many mysteries of a design/assembly process of 40 some years ago. In all reality, it probably didn't matter and you could find on the cars both ways.....

Ok, I think I found out the reason for the curvature. The curvature needs to go UP towards the window otherwise when the window is installed, it forces the lower part of the glass receiver (u-channel that the glass sits in) into the rear channel grove. The window still operates but there is an ever so slight drag when cranking. Besides, left in the wrong way, will cause abnormal wear on the channel liner.

I hope this helps someone else who's decided to do a little maintenance on the window and it's parts.......
