    1961 exhaust tips

We're just finishing a 61, and we've been told that the tips of the stock system we recently purchased are supposed to be sawed off in order to make the opening rouchly parallel to the ground. I think they are like that on 1962, but I haven't found any authority indicating they should be like that on a 1961. Help?

Firstly, the 1961 and 1962 rear pipes are identical part numbers, so will be identical in appearance. Secondly, the correct configurstion is more complex than you suggest, as the outlet is actually flared outward in a specific configuration. I would strongly suggest that you familiarize yourself with an original pipe prior to trying to duplicate the appearance. If you need help, email me and I'll take a photo of an NOS pipe end for your reference.

Thanks for the timely response. And, if you would be so kind as to take a photo, I would be most appreciative. I've been poring through the books, and I just can find any pictures.
