    67 L36 Carb Options?

I'd like to have a "backup" carb for my 427/390. My refurbised numbers original is finicky. I've been looking for a functional replacement which can be had at a good price and am thinking maybe the 1850?

Can anyone comment on the dificulty of connecting the throttle linkage, connecting the choke coil linkage, and the air cleaner fit of an 1850 on an L36?

Alternatively, is their a better replacement choice? (a nice 3810, 3811 seems to sell for over $500).

    Thanks

    Glenn-----

Your existing throttle linkage can be adapted to the 1850 carb without too much trouble. As far as I know, the air cleaner will fit, but I am not completely sure of that.

As far as the choke goes, there's a big problem. The 1850 is a manual choke carburetor. It can be converted to an integral, hot-air type choke using a Holley kit. However, it cannot be converted to a divorced style choke such as your application uses. There is no Holley carb currently manufactured which has a divorced type choke except those few restoration carburetors that may still be produced (for $600+ dollars).

Thank you very much Joe. This seems to be another instance where trying to save a few $$ is going to be more pain than gain.

My 67 L36 had a Holley #3310 on it when I got it. If you don't absolutely need the choke, you can lock it in the open position. Beyond that it bolted up. The air cleaner base had to be modified, dented to clear the carb and altered to have no indents for alignment.....

I purchased a new Holley 3811 a few years back and it runs great. Has incorrect date thou...... 8 points at the judging meets.

You might be able to get the shafts repaired on your original.....

Between you and Joe, I think I have the full picture. I am now at risk of becoming a carb collector Vs a car collector.

I have a beautiful orignal fully restored matching 3811 that I am having some problems with (think it is in the main metering block) - more troubleshooting req'd. I also have a warped, leaking service replacement 3811.

I'd like to do less wrenching and more driving next few months so was looking for a "simple solution". Looks like anything but a 3811 is going to have some pain. I see you can buy new 3811 baseplate and body for a decent price - may just fix up my service replacement 3811.

          Thanks for your help.

            Glenn -

An 1850 with an electric choke should work, although you'll have to adapt the pump-to-carb line to the bowl inlet.

              Good thought John.

I think electric is definitely the way to go if I go the 1850 route. On the fuel inlet... was planning to just swap the front bowl from my "basket case" 3811 (I guess I'd then have a Frankenstein carb...)
