    Engine/powerglide remove & install (midyear)

I'm looking for some advice on sequencing engine & automatic trans removal on my midyear roadster. My ceiling height is 9'-3", and I'll be using standard engine hoist with leveler.

For removal -- is it easier to remove the engine first, then the powerglide? Powerglide first, then the engine? Or is pulling them together as a unit practical?

Same question for installation -- is there a sequence that make things easier? I've read the posts & responses to similar questions with 4-speed trans; would like some feedback on same task with the bulkier powerglide in tow.

    Thanks in advance.

Is your hoist hook height about 8 ft.

I'd pull the engine with the trans. Need to be able to tilt engine with the trans end down 30-45deg. I don't think the typical roll around hoist has a high enough hook to clear. A regular chain hoist mounted on a cross member/A frame with the max hook height at 8 ft will get the job done.... especially with the leveler.

You start by lifting the engine to clear the front mounts then slide forward until tail shaft clear cross member. Now tilt and raise engine to clear core support and roll chassis/body out from under the hoist
