    '67 Brake Line Clips...

This question is regarding the brake line clip(s) just ahead of the steering box. There are two holes drilled on the top rail on the drivers side. The hole on the left looks like it has threads tapped into it. The hole on the right looks unused. The '67 Assembly Instruction Manual indicates there was only one clip attached with a screw. The '67 Judging Manual doesn't mention anything.

Some of the Vendor's catalogs say only one clip was used, others say 2 clips. Some say a green phosphate push in clip was used and others say these clips were zinc coated an attached with a screw. Does anyone have an original example '67 who can clear this up? My car is a small block with no A/C. Thanks for any information. PT

    Patrick,

My 67 s/b no AC has only one brake line clip in the location. It is in the hole to the rear of the car, or the right one in the picture.

Never been touched as I had to clean 40 years of grease off to get some idea of the finish. Looks like zinc plated, or at least the same finish as the brake line. The screw is a hex head recessed with what looks like a single "E" marking in the center. (The eyes ain't what they used to be and I couldn't get close enough with the readers)

    Having fun,

Thanks Jerry, so I assume you have only one hole on top of the frame and not two in that location? I didn't figure on that since the hole on the right is untapped. I have a late July '67 car. I'll use the zinc clip with the screw but I don't know about that other hole on the left. Patrick

My 67 BB has only the rear hole with a black oxide bolt (sunken head) and a zinc plated clip. The brake line is straight, not curved, in that area.

            Patrick,

The clip in the left of the picture you posted looks like it belongs on the rear cross over line and press fits into a hole in the frame.

Thanks Rob, yep that's the same clip. So it looks like from the everyone's responses that the clip should be zinc, in the right hole in the picture and have a self tapping, recessed head screw with a zinc or black phosphate finish. Patrick

                Patrick,

My 67 is late June (22049) and I have both holes. Will check tomorrow whether it is threaded or not. Couldn't tell whether the screw is black or zinc but it doesn't shine with cleaning off the grease.

                  Patrick,
My 1967 (February) is far from NCRS material but I thought the fact that I have only one hole in that location might be of interest to you.

Jerry, you have a late June '67 car (22049) and I have a July car (22526) and they both have two holes, yet it seems that the earlier '67's only had one hole. Could it be that late in the '67 model year the factory was already tooling up for the '68 frame production? Sounds like a possiblity. PT

Thanks Paul, interesting that a June '67 car above and my July '67 car both have two holes and the earlier '67's only seem to have one hole. Thanks for the great picture! PT

Wonder if the 68's used the forward hole? *NM*

My 68 and 69 only have the front hole. The brake line is held in that position with a hex head bolt.
