Re: my 75 just out of paint booth
Ken,
Nice picture! I'll bet you're really excited.
I am trying to tell, from that angle, how you dealt with the long piece of stainless trim on the front of the roof panel. Is it on and taped or did you take it off? I never figured out how to un-crimp it. Did you?

Re: my 75 just out of paint booth
First, the side T-top molding and joining clip is screwed to the T-top and these are fairly easy to remove. The front molding is held to the T-top by a very slight ridge on the front edge of the skin; the bright trim snaps over this ridge, and is held tightly underneath the front edge by a resilient rubber sealing strip made into the molding.
The front molding can be removed by very carefully prying one end of the channel form away from the fiberglass skin using a small narrow screwdriver, then CAREFULLY work the molding off the fiberglass along its length. I used my thumb and forefinger clamped onto the molding and skin surface to "roll" the molding off the edge. I don't have to tell you...get in a hurry, or get careless, and you'll buckle the molding rendering it worthless.
Removal of the molding will give you a more authentic appearance, but I don't blame anyone for not removing them...it is too easy to damage these moldings, and I doubt replacements are growing on trees. The downside of leaving them installed is that paint, especially modern urethane finishes, will build at the back edge of the molding making a repaint virtually impossible to conceal.- Top
