    Lo-Jack

    I am considering purchasing the "Lo-Jack" car security system for my '69 L36, and was curious about to what the other members thought of it?

    I really appreciate any information -

      I purchase a Lo-Jack for my 2006 truck and got the "early warning" option. The one thing I've never liked about Lo-Jack is there is no audible alarm. While audible alarms are widely ignored I had my '86 truck stolen from in front of my house - if there had been an audible alarm on it I would have heard it and responded.

          A friend had a car stolen and recovered in New Jersey with Lo-Jack. When we went to the police recovery lot the battery was disconnected. The Lo-Jack internal battery lasts about three days and thieves park a car they suspect has Lo-Jack to let the battery die. The second time it was stolen it was gone for good.
          I guess it depends on how often you leave the car parked unattended. They also may have to take part of the interior out to hide the transmitter.

              Call your local Police Department. Some departments give these alarms a high priority. Some don't. See what the routine is in your area.

                      Thanks Anthony and the others for the great information. Considering my car is a daily driver and is left alone quite often, the peace of mind it will give me when I do park it on the streets of LA seems worthy of the price.

                      By the way, in case you were interested, they have two versions. I was quoted $995 for the early warning system, which as the name conveys -- alerts police the moment the car is moved. And the basic for $695, where you call the police and tell them your car is gone. As Anthony mentioned, it is a one time fee. I contacted them directly and was offered a free install. Also, some insurance companies will give you a discount if you own one.

                          You better check on the "early warning" - I believe it does NOT notify the police - Lo Jack notifies you - you then notify the police.
