Can someone help figure out a trim tag on a 64 conv I'm considering buying. My copy of the judging manual shows the Style code format as 867 64 for a 1964 conv. The trim tag on the car I'm looking at is stamped 64 867 (reversed order).
But more confusing is the car is dk blue vinyl but the trim code on the car is stamped 490JC which according to my manual should be dk blue vinyl for a COUPE. To add more confusion, the judging manual shows the 490J trim code being used for AO Smith bodies while this car seems to be a St louis car - body code S10459.
I realize trim tags can be re-created easily these days, however this car has belonged to the current owner for almost 20 years and he swears the tag hasn't been touched. Am I misunderstanding the manual?
