I have always loved the "bumper sticker":

If you are reading this, Thank a Teacher.

If you are reading this in English, Thank a Veteran.

                  Medal of Honor Recipients

Brian Williams, NBC nightly news anchor, was being interviewed the other day about his being on the Board of the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation.

The purpose of the Foundation, in conjunction with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, which consists exclusively of the living recipients of the Medal of Honor, is to reach out to the citizens of America, particularly its youth, to promote an awareness of what the Medal of Honor represents and how ordinary Americans through courage, sacrifice and selfless service, and patriotism, can challenge fate and change the course of history. There are no better ambassadors to take this message to the American people than the Medal of Honor recipients themselves who embody these values through their incredible acts of bravery.

Every weekday for 110 straight days, Brian Williams' blog on MSNBC will be profiling a different living recipient of the Medal of Honor, our nation's highest military honor. The story postings began on 5/23/07, and will remain archived. You can access them on the site listed below.

We owe an insurmountable debt to all of our veterans, as well as to the active members of our armed forces. I know I can't say thanks enough...

Semper Fi Jim! Some people wonder if they made a difference in this world. The Marines don't have this problem! Ronald Reagan. Have a cold one and say a silent prayer for all those brave soles who have given thier all for America.

                        Louis,

March 25th is National Metal of Honor day.

For the last few years the Marine Corps League in Tulsa, Ok has been organizing a public ceremony on that day with a Metal of Honor recipient as a speaker along with others. The ceremonies have been well done, no thanks to the city administration and parks department. This year they made it impossible for the ceremony to be held in Veterans Park in Tulsa.

As much as some of us honor the military, not everyone does.
We that do must work that much harder.

                          Re: Medal of Honor Recipients

I spent 4 years in the Corps and my oldest daughter is now a USAF pilot. I lost several high school friends in the Nam and several buddies from my unit. One of my best freinds from HS, another Marine, was KIA in the Nam and was postmously awarded the Medal of Honor.
My Dad was in the 101st, 506th PIR, 2nd Bat, and jumped into France on D-Day (he landed in St. Mere Eglise), Holland, and survived Bastogne.
My brother was on a Navy boat for 3 tours in the Nam.

My family has had a long history of service to our Country. We'd do it again if asked or needed.

To all of my fellow veterans, Welcome home.
