    1967 Shift Linkage Adjustment

    A really basic question:

On the 67 with 4 speed, how is the gear shift lever adjusted? The car is all assembled. Is this approached from beneath the shift console or from under the car? I see in the assembly manual that there is a procedure to adjust all 4 shift rods. The issue isn't one of getting into a selected gear, just that the shift lever "wobbles"....What is the best way to tighten this? Any advice is appreciated....

    Re: 1967 Shift Linkage Adjustment

Wobble once a gear is selected is generally a sign of a worn shifter shaft, or an expanded shifter housing, occasionally because the weld than holds the shifter "box" together has broken, but sometimes just as a result of wear. ther is no adjustment for "wobble" with the shifter in the car, if escessive the shifter must be removed, disassembled and rebuilt or repaired depending on the source of the problem. Note that a small amount of movement when in gear side to side is "normal", as there is no side load on the shifter handle such as is present in a Hurst style shifter if that is what you are comparing it to.
