In preparation on removing the body off the frame (1973, convertible), I would like to build some form of a support for the body. What is the best way to support the body? I was thinking of building a wooden frame with post that extends up to the body mounts. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks John G

Re: supporting the body off the frame
I removed the body on my '74 convertible using a "ladder" frame arrangement. I removed the doors and folding top mechanism and used those mounting holes to mount risers up to a wooden frame the spanned the width of the car. The frame reached forward to the nose where I connected an adjustable strap to support the nose when the frame was disconnected. I hoisted this wooded "ladder" frame to lift the car. This worked out well because the frame also served to support the nose of the car. I also made a dolly with 4 swivel casters the same size as the middle part of the car frame. I dropped the body on the dolly and used this to move the body around by myself without worrying about the nose. I raised the body, did fit checks (rebuilt some body mounts) and lower the body easily this way.
I have to admit this contraption was ugly & crude, but it was heavy duty, practical and made without spending much money. Everything was well supported and you could take your time to get things right.
