    C-2 Side Exhaust Covers

Is there anyway to tell if the side exhaust covers for a c-2 car are original factory or reproductions?

One item... originals have a black fiberglass heat shield/liner glued inside.

For what it's worth, here is a picture of my NOS covers and the heat shield is gray. PT

        FWIW

GM side covers didn't come with that mounting bracket riveted in place. Nice beat up GM boxes. Looks old. Fools most.

Whenever I read FWIW - I think it really means - "here's my guess and since it's a free guess - it's generally worthless".

Looking at the Assembly Instruction manual (AIM) for the option N14 (side exhaust) on page 382, it appears that the bracket is riveted in place to the cover assembly and then there is a bolt that attaches the assembly to the frame. I cannot comment on the inner liner being glued - would the use of glue in this area of extreme heat (exhaust) be a concern??

              1983 Service N14 cover -- close-up

As described in the '65 TIM&JG, "the insulator, visible through slots in the cover, is painted semi-gloss black". The inside is of dark fiberglass, similar to 1967 body panels (IMO).

Also note the right edge of the second-from-top slot and the bottom slot, where you can see the grey epoxy(?) glue "ooze".
