    C2 deck lid alignment

    Ok, I think I have spent more time trying to align the deck lid on my 66 than it took the factory to build the entire body! I had a slight amount of rubbing (and thus a chip in the paint) at the right forward edge of the deck lid - next to the pass door. I tried to adjust to solve the problem and now . . . I can't seem to figure it out. HELP! I need advice or the procedure for properly fitting the deck lid. And I guess I need it so that a 3rd grader can figure it out, because right now I feel like I'm not smarter than one.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Pretty easy actually, assuming it will fit the hole. Loosen the bolts, close the lid, get it adjusted, tighten the bolts from the underside with the lid closed.

      Wayne,

      Thank you for your response. What about the latches, do they need to come off before closing the lid? Or what?

      Thanks again for the help,
      Rob

        Hello;
        The C2 deck lids expand from side to side w/ age.
        The arc of the lid is being drawn wider horizontally by the pressure of the latches against the w/strip.
        Requiring slight removal of the outer side edges.
        Hope this helps.

          No reason to remove the latches. There is a lot of slop in them side to side. There is an adjustment up and down at the front by moving the catch. You can move the rear line up and down by placing a shim in the front or rear hole of the hinge mount. Use spacers to locate the panel in the hole.

            Ray,

            This sure seems to be the case. It just doesn't fit anymore at the very front of the lid. It's a matter of milimeters, but still not fitting. I am going to try Wayne's suggestions one more time before coming to your conclusion. Thanks for the input.

              Rob,

              You are aware that you can install shims under the alignment blocks to force the quarters out are you not? As the decklid goes into the latched position, the alignment wedges will hold the proper gap between the side of the decklid and the quarter. If the gap is too tight, just install a couple of more shims under the alignment wedges! It will widen the gaps until they are perfect. C2 cars are really pretty easy to get perfect gaps on, as the alignment wedges on the decklid and the doors make it a snap to get the perfect gaps at the critical door/quater/decklid area. This area is prone to moving around when the car is driven, so proper shim selection at these areas is very important to keep the gaps right.

              Regards, John McGraw
