Some many months ago someone posted to the board the type and number of aircraft bulbs which would be a little brighter than the standard bulbs but I cannot find the post in the archives. Can anyone help with this? Thanks.

Re: 66/67 Instrument bulbs.
Rick, I did not see that post but I have a question. Does a different type of bulb react to the headlight/panel dimmer differently than the stock bulb? My 66 has stock bulbs that are not real bright but they work well (you can see them and they dim and brighten well) and pass ops checks with no problem. I wonder however if a "bright" aircraft bulb (if it were detected) would pass PV? Given the attention to detail that our PV judges have attained I'd hesitate to use them. On the other hand if it's a driver.....why not?

Will aircraft instrument bulbs be too hot?
I am interested in using a dependable brighter bulb. I use GE correct replacement bulbs, since cheap generics burn out in months instead of years. I have noticed that the bulbs get dimmer in a few months and then stay at that (dim) brightness level. Brighter would be better, but hotter may discolor or set fire to the guages. Do aircraft bulbs use halogen technology to increase brightness with no increase in heat? - Dave- Top

Re: Will aircraft instrument bulbs be too hot?
Dave, good point! I was just concerned about an issue with resistance through the dimmer switch and never considered the heat issue. I use the GE bulbs too and have the same experience that you mentioned. I would guess that if the bulbs are really bright then the PV issue would come into play as well.
