    1957 270 HP High Idle

I've read the ST-12 and the '57 Shop Manual regarding the setting of the high idle speed on this dual quad set-up( 2626S and 2627S). Both of these publications seem to indicate that the only way the high idle speed can be attained is with the carb off the car. Is this true, or is there an easier way?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Ed,

According to page 6m-45 of the 57 Passanger Car Shop Manual, the "engine should be thoroughly warmed-up. Adjust engine to 1800 RPM with adjusting tang on high step of fast idle cam." You set the fast idle speed by bending the tang. The 'off engine' adjustment on page 6m-56 is just a preliminary setting to get you close to where it should be.
