    Who repairs Fan clutchs

I have two all most new fan clutchs for 1960 vett. I got them for a second party. so I can't say they are new. I put both of them in the oven for 2hrs at 250 deg. and they turn just as easy as when they were room temp. Then I left them in the over for 2 more hrs at 350 deg. Thery still turn all most as easy. at no time did they lock up. maybe this is why they sold them? Is there a better way to test them? Who repairs them? Have any idea how much it cost to have them repaired? Or is it cheaper to just replace them?

'60 was first year of fan clutch for Corvette and was an option then buying you 10-15 peak HP which would later become standard feature on Corvette and later most all GM cars. If TRULY original '60 fan clutch units are in your hand (rather rare and articles published in past Restorer articles tell you distinguishing marks/how to identify), these are worth good $$$ even if they are inoperable in their current state.

By putting in the oven and TORTURING them and near broiling temperatures, you are not 'testing' -- you're cooking the living bejeebers out of 'em. Fan clutch works via 3-dimensional transfer function (RPM vs. Temp vs. % Slip) and you're exercising only one of two critical parameters....

If your '60 has mating portion of factory original option (5-blade fan, 17 1/8 inch diameter blade, nominal, with button head rivets vs. flat head rivets), you should consider restoring/preserving the rather rare factory option/feature of your car by having the clutch core(s) rebuilt.

NCRS member Fred Oliva, operates Vintage Automotive Research in Coral Springs Florida and specializes in the delicate operation of opening and rejuvenating fan clutch cores. He advertises in Driveline and will do the 'deed' for you with pleasure. Cost to operate and perform surgery on defunct clutch core is in the $130 range (confirm current prices by contacting VAR directly) at (954) 344-2215.

Andy: I recently had Fred Oliva do my fan clutch and not only did it come back looking absolutely perfect It also works perfectly. It did take about 4 months for the turnaround but it was worth the wait. It cost me $145 including freight to MI. I recommend usiing his service. Jeff
