    Re: Ignition/Starter Problem C3 - need help

    Rob -

When you say "won't start", does that mean it won't crank, or it cranks but won't fire, or??

      John-

When I turn the key there is absolutely nothing -- dead. It wont crank at all.

The only thing I did was screw with the fuses, so I'd imagine that has to be the culprit...?

      Any ideas?

      Thanks,
      Rob

Hmmm...You broke a fuse. You weren't perchance using a screwdriver to pry them out of the clips were you? Did you bridge or ground any clips?...i.e. make sparks fly under the dash?

          Chuck-

How'd ya guess? I did use a screwdriver...however I didn't see any sparks fly. Did I possibly short something out? (I have since purchased a plastic fuse remover).

Yuk, yuk ...Some insight can only be gained by bad experience.

Most of the guys here are better electrical trouble-shooters than I am...I would rather do anything than try to find electrical trouble. Having said that, I would figure the problem has to be (1) a bad ground (possible cause for the original problem?), (2) a blown fuse, or (3) a melted fusible link. I would get my multimeter and start determining where the electron river ends.

I was afraid you were going to say that (and by that, I mean ALL that -- including the "yuk yuk"'s). As they say "live and...".

Anyhow I appreciate the head's up. If anyone has dealt with a similar situation, I would sure appreciate any insight.

              Thanks,

If the fusible link went South, you can expect to have NO power in the cabin and that includes courtesy lights, Etc....

That's the strange thing, I do have power in the cabin. The interior lights work, even the ignition buzzer...

When you were pulling fuses and removed the round metal plug in the fuse panel, you broke something that previously worked. The problem began because the dash lights went out, now the car will not start. I also think that the 250V, 2A fuse you replaced is the wrong fuse. It should be rated for a much lower voltage.

                      Louis-

I concur, which is why I just purchased a new set of original fuses. I will begin my trouble shooting by replacing the fuses and then, if need be bypass the Ign and start it from the starter solenoid. Do you have any other suggestions?

By accident I disconnected the starter wire. Just reconnected it and it fired right up. Thanks thought for the info.
