    C6 Dead Battery

A good friend of mine who is ill has not driven his C6 convertible for over a month and, you guessed it, the battery is dead. The problem is that all the spare keys are locked in the car and he has only the key fob transmitter, now useless, to gain entrance. He has one key, which I think may be a "spare" key that fits in the trunk slot but doesn't open the trunk. What do I do next? Call Roadside assistance?

try to shake the car, the FOB will think it is your pocket and should release the door lock.

If he has a spare key, it will fit in the slot above the license plate in the rear. Pop the trunk open and you'll see the emergency door pull cable in the left rear quarter panel area ( Inside ) Pull the cable and it will release the driver's door. Then he can pop the hood and charge the battery. If this car is a 2005 and a 6 speed manual, he must have the car in reverse to shut it down. That could be his battery problem. If it is a 2006 or 7, he may just need to keep it on a battery tender to avoid this problem again.

Yes. There is a way into the car that is not shared with the public. Tell your friend that when his C6 goes "BEEP, BEEP, BEEP", it's trying to say "Hey...Dummy, you're leaving the FOB in the car!!!"

Then, right after he calls 1-800-chevy, he needs to call his dealer and twist the dealer's tail...A "spare key" that fits in the lock, but doesn't unlock the trunk lid is a "worse than worthless" curiosity. The dealer probably managed to swap the keys to two cars...both spare keys are on a wire ring from the factory, and not installed on the FOBs.

The car will only go BEEP BEEP BEEP if the "Fob Reminder" feature has been activated on the DIC. I bet your key will work the trunk. Sometimes the first time they don't go all the way in. Keep us posted on the outcome.

            Don,
Bring the car to the dealer and have them check for parasitic draw per document ID #1953881. If all checks ok they will then reprogram the PCM/ECM with the latest calibrations to solve the problem on the 05 and 06's. The 07's have the fix from the factory.
            hope this helps

              Re: C6 Dead Battery-Problem Solved-Sorta...

Thanks to all who answered my plea for help. I'm a C2 guy and don't Know much about the"new" cars ('84-'07). The spare key DOES work in the trunk but you have to PUSH DOWN on the trunk lid at the same time you turn the key. This relieves the tension on the lid and allows the lock to turn. We used the cable in the trunk to get in. I will have the dealer check for draw and reprogram. Thanks again to you all for your usual expert responses!

You're right...No "Fob Reminder" is the default setting. So many owners on CF set it to "Yes" that I had forgotten that "Yes" was not the default.
