    C2 wheel weights

had my car on the lift today, LOF, and noticed for the first time that the wheel weights on all the wheels have b f goodrich or b f g (the smaller ones) embossed on them. the tires are bfg lifesaver radials. is that cool or what?

btw; will be putting these tires, wheels and hubcaps in storage shortly and installing american racing torque wheels and michelin tires, any tire size recomendations?

    Bill,

I've done a little research on C2 wheel weights and I've never heard of B F Goodrich wheel weights being originally installed by GM on C2s. Are you suggesting that these weights are original to the car? Clearly the radials aren't.

of course i do not think they are original. just thought it was neat that the weights installed when the tires were installed carried the same logo as the tires

I recently went on a tour of a salvage yard looking for wheel weights minus the metric notations. I found some with Sears printed on them same with Firestone.

would be interesting to know how many tire manufacurers logoed their own wheel weights. funny, i worked in a service station as a kid that sold a fair amount of tires and do not remember any of them.

            Gary,

We've spoken in the past regarding your wheel weight article in the Restorer. Since that time, I've come across a number of weights with different names and markings, similar to what was mentioned by Bill in his post here. They are; Wards, Davis, Sears, Allstate, and Goodyear. Also, like the B Micro 1.5 weight you had spoken of in your article, I've also seen a Micro weight with these markings; B Micro B, which by the way appears to be the size of a 1.5 oz. weight.

              Hi Ray,

Yes, I've seen an example of the B Micro B weight as well and such a weight could well be original to mid-year cars. The point of my posting above was to voice my opinion that the weighst with the names of tire manufacturers and installers were likely not installed by GM. Yes, it is neat that some weights have the same company name as the tire, but they should be judged differently from known original weights, like Micro, LH, Perfect, etc.
