I had my wheel dipped. all the paint is removed with the stamp date exposed. I have a slight rust residue left. I have all the paint needed. Would someone please detail the prep and painting necessary. Do I need to sand, apply primer or just wipe down with acetone and paint.

Erv - there's a ton of previous posts in the archives on this subject. Some have used sand blasting, some media blasting, or some just hand sanded to prep the surface. Obviously, the main objective is to reach the smoothest surface possible because pits or imperfections will show through the paint. As to the primer,some advocate using it and some don't.

I recently painted my Rally wheels which had light rust pitting and I was very happy with the results. All I did was hand sanded them to a reasonably smooth surface, wiped them down, then I applied a rust-stop primer for protection and to help fill the pits. Then I applied semi-flat black to the back, and then applied argent silver(greenish version for my 70)to the front, while allowing the silver to overspray onto the back to replicate the factory look. Worked like a champ. It's really no big deal. Good Luck, Patrick Moresi #45881
