    Re: Please help me out

Nice swap - an original L88 motor for a custom hot rod job. That original motor is probably running around LA in a Vega. Come to think of it, I think I saw it in the back seat of a Corvair this past weekend at the Hot Rod Power Tour. Back to the original 12 mile deal - the car may have 12 miles on it, but how do you set a price for NOM in a 12 mile body?

      Burroughs still owns it?

Well, now that we've established that there are two Rally Red '67 L-88s, one with a red interior (115791)) and the other black (116945), I take it that Burroughs still owns the red/black car - the one with 12 original miles that I helped the owner disassemble back in '67. It had been my understanding that he sold it on the field at Bloomington last year after it failed to meet the reserve on the block, but this must have been the red/red car.

Duke, did you read the first post at the top of this thread? He is selling it in Hemming's On-Line Classifieds, check it out for yourself. Patrick

Dave, all I do is put "Hemming's Motor News" in the Search box and hit enter, the first hit on the selection list you get is Hemmings.com, hit on this and you will get the web site. Hit on "On Line Classifieds". Make a hit on Chevrolet, then Corvette Midyear and enter the year '67 to '67, and hit on "all regions" (or something like that). Then you get a list of nothing but '67's, go down about 30 or so cars and there is the L-88. Keep at it, you'll get it. Patrick

The were 175 '67s listed, and Burroughs L-88 was close to the bottom.

Why not? After seeing his price, everyone...

... who owns a 67 probably decided to try to cash out.

Re: The 1967 L-88 w/12 Miles Is For Sale...

I saw the Red/Red L88 when it was on consignment in Anaheim last summer. It was is an inflatable, filtering clear cocoon bag and my request for a test drive was laughed off the showroom floor (no I hadn't been drinking). I must admit, the car was truly a beauty but at $600K I had to resist pulling out my AMEX. It had off road exhaust.

Inspiration comes from impossible dreams, so I sold my C5 ragtop and found an L71 Red/Red roadster which can be driven without mortal fear of bug splatters and road pebbles. I made my own heater delete by bypassing its corroded heater core.

I leave the L88 type cars for lottery winners and high rollers. Maybe the die-cast version will tide me over.

That was the "other" red L-88 you saw.

The "12-mile" L-88 currently for sale by David Burroughs has a black interior and side pipes. The one you saw is the "other" Rally Red L-88 that has a red interior and under the car exhaust. Apparently this car was never seriously raced, but driven on the street in its first life and then restored. This car was offered at the RM auction in Scottsdale in January, but was a no-sale at $320K top bid.

All Corvettes are red, all red L-88s have 12 miles

...Amazing that folks keep saying that this other red/red one has 12 miles also. If you thought you were looking at a car you that had only 12 miles, wouldn't you look at the odo or did the bag prevent that? You don't suppose the current owner minds folks mistaking it for the "12 Mile Legend", do you?

                          What, me get excited?!

Well, I do have a foolish romantic interest in the "12 mile" Rally Red '67 L-88 currently for sale by David Burroughs because I helped the original owner disassemble it 33 years ago. I've added a lot of miles since then and have not appreciated anywhere near as much. It was a revelation to me a week ago in the prior thread on this subject that there is a second Rally Red L-88, restored, albeit with somewhat more mileage. Jeff (if I dare speak for Jeff ) and I are just trying to keep the record straight.

                              Re:The Red/Red L88 definetly had more miles.

Duke and all-As i said in my earlier post this car,the Red/Red car was on a used car lot in Detroit when it was bought and used as a driver.Nabors Brothers restored the car and may have put who knows what mileage on the odometer, but i'll bet you any money it had a lot more than 12 miles when the teacher owned it! I'll try to get the info on the mileage when the teacher owned it as he lives here in Dearborn. Lou
