It is my understanding that for 1971 MY within engine assembly date code there were 3 different fonts for zero. According to NCRS 70-72 Judging Guide 4th edition in cases where more than one zero is used one is oval, one round, and one almost square with rounded corners. I have experienced a Jan. assembled block with the square w/ rounded corners for the V01 Jan date and a block with a oval for a V02 Feb date. It appears that each month used a different font for the zero. I would like to know if anybody has a March or April assembled block that they could etch the engine assembley code for me. I am looking for what is correct for March and April.

There were many different fonts used for all the different characters in the machine stamp; the stamps were set up every day (one gang holder for each suffix scheduled for production), and nobody paid any attention to which font was used for any specific character. I'd question anyone who claims that a certain font for a specific character was only used in a given month.- Top
