Some questions for a 69 firewall restoration...

What should I use to replicate all this goop that they threw at the firewall and cowl area? I imagine that it was sprayed on but I'd like to find something that I could just daub on with a brush just to freshen it up AFTER I black out the firewall. Oh and what is the proper finish for the wiper arm linkages beside black goop?

What would be the proper finish on this switch assy? The screws that attach it to the firewall are black but not sure if they are oxide or phoshate. The bracket itself is silver cad but for some reason the back side is painted as well as the switch and some of the wiring which I'm not sure if it is correct or not. I've had the car for 20yrs now and I never did that to it but it doesn't mean that it was done before that for some reason...

    Thanks,

    Greg Linton

The following was true on my 70...it's likely the same on a 69.

Wiper transmissions: black GM primer; use satin or semi-flat black spray can.

    Wiper door limit switch:
Switch mounting bracket was dipped in black primer; mine was hung from the center door linkage hole. The #6 machine screws and nuts that attach the switch to the bracket are zinc plated. I show the bracket to firewall screws as black phosphate, but that's possibly subject to the observer's interpretation...I highly doubt it will matter in judging.

      Greg,
I just refinished the bracket for my 69 390 horse today. I dipped my bracket in chassis black, as I thought all the brackets fastened to the firewall were finished this way. Does the manual call for silver cad? Thanks, Mark

I can't seem to find it in the manual Mark but as per Chuck's reply I think you did it right. That's how I'm going to do it anyways!
