    C2 heater box

Can someone tell me what the large heater resistor does that attaches to the inner heater box on a '66? Is this resistor part of some circuit that controls the speed of the blower motor? Am I correct in thinking that it doesn't control the opening or closing of the entrance or exit doors inside the heater box. Those doors are manually controlled?

Also, does anyone have a good technique for filling in or disguising a few deep scratches on the external heater box? Dye? Shoe polish? Paint? A bit of fiberglass resin w/ pigment added?

    Thanks,

    Gary

    Re: C2 heater box

    Gary,

If you're talking about the 2 bare wire coils (with 3 terminals, I believe) mounted on an insulating card, and attached to the inside of the heater box via sheet metal screws, then those are the resistors for the blower motor speed control.
A foolproof way to fix minor gouges in the composite heater box, is to sand and polish to match the surrounding surfaces. Deep gouges and/or repairs require fill with colored resin, available from such vendors as Corvette Image, Corvette Central, or Shermersheims. Uncolored resin can be tinted with carbon black.
