    Proper Paint

My 66 coupe has components in the engine compartment that appear to be painted the same color and I would like to repaint them up to NCRS specs. These parts are the hood release, hood hinges, hood striker plates, radiator cap, and power booster tank for the master cylinder. If all these parts are to be painted the same, what is everyone using with good results? Thanks in advance Bill

    Re: Proper Paint

I presume that you are looking for the GM blackout paint, "Eggshell Black". The closest approximation, (virtually identical) shade can be found with John Deere's "Blitz Black", available from your friendly lawn mower or farm tractor store. This stuff is available in either areosol spray or cans. I've used it for years as engine blackout, behind bumper black and side cove black on 1962's as well as chassis blackout. The spray can is super high quality and I feel, the best aerosol on the market. The paint dries fast with a beautiful subtile sheen and isn't bad when used as a primer. Try it-You'll thank me!

    Varooom!

      Re: Proper Paint

      Mornin' Bill,

Your brake booster should not be painted, it needs to be plated. Same with the radiator cap. It should be cad plated. The rest of the items you mention would have some degree of "black-out" paint, but not be totally covered. Adam's book gives a good description of this. Bill

        Question For You...

On your '66, is the lid for the master cylinder painted black, or plated a gold color? This is a huge can of worms, and you see both on the judging field, and everyone is convinced they are right. Adams' book shows more photos of assembly line cars with black painted lids than plated lids. Just curious.

          Re: Question For You..Everett.

Glad you had some input, brings up a question I was going to ask down the line. My stock 67 B/B L-71 coupe has a stock black power brake booster assy. I have wondered if that was correct by seeing it both cad and black. Mine is a Feb/67 model. The brake fluid reservior has a cad plate on it. Which is it? anyone know what the judges would think?Thanksgrr#33570

Where are the Team Leaders when ...

you need them? I would like their inputs on this. I can't say which is correct - plated or painted master cylinder lids for '66/'67 cars. All I will say is that my Bowtie '66 has black paint...
